OK, I'm getting better with this tractor.
How do I cut into the standard hydraulic system to add external conectors, via a set of remotes?
The guy I bought the tractor from showed me a pipe at the rear of the tractor and told me that this was the high pressure pipe out of the pump and I could tap in to it, add a valve and drive external rams. Didn't even occur to me at the time to ask where the fluid comes back into the system...

I want to be able to run a ram or a hydraulic motor (or both) for implements.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Be sure you use an open center valve. The fluid MUST be able to flow back to the transmission. If you just tap in and plug the line it will damage your pump.

Cut the line , Run pump end to IN on valve & OUT to back half of line.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the info. Attached is a pic of the back of the tractor. Is this the right pipe? Is the flow direction correct? If I cut this pipe and get some "in" and "out" connectors fitted, via a center-open valve, will this work?

With my limited knowledge of this stuff, can I take it that the center open valve, when connected to a ram (for example) offers "extend" when the valve is pushed one way, "contract" when pushed the other way and "connect in to out" when not touched?

Is there a particular type of valve I should, or one that I should avoid?

Is there a standard for hydraulic connectors for implements? If so - what are they called?

Phew! Lots of questions. Getting excited now.

Cheers, and thanks again!

Chris.

I can't tell from the picture. The pressure line is the small line on the hydraulic pump. An open center valve allows oil to pass through the valve when it is not being operated. A close center does not allow oil to pass. An open center pump pumps a constant volumn in relation to engine speed. A closed center pump pumps on demand. If there is no demand for oil , none is pumped.
What you want is a double acting open center valve.
There are several standard quick couplers . I can supply you with valves & couplers. More information on compact tractors & hydraulics

Hi Leonard,

When I click on the link "http://groups.msn.com/SheaffersTownCountryTractors/messages.msnw?&openpopup=1&posturl=general%2Emsnw%3Faction%3Dmb%5Fpost&pps=k"
I am taken to "http://groups.msn.com/home" and can't find your area!!
I've tried cutting and pasting the link into firefox and explorer...

Thanks anyway - I'll dig around and see what I come up with!

With best regards,
Chris.

I think you are labeling the return line rather than the feed. The smaller line looks more like the feed. As posted, the best place to start is at the pump and follow the smaller line to a spot you can tie in.

Kayssupply - I believe you are right!
Having listened to the "wisdom of the elders", I pulled the wheel off and removed the cover. I have reposted a picture and relabelled it. Is this right? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I really appreciate your help, guys /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
