Has anyone tried the Tractor Supply Company 3point Log splitter on a B2910? How does it work? I'm curious as it's using the tractor's hydraulics to power it, and I don't want to spend $550 on one if they don't work. If you've used any other 3pt splitters (powered by the tractor) I'd appreciate hearing about htem too!

Have a good one,
Dave

Dave--

Don't know about the 2910 and don't undertand Kubota's model numbering /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, but I've used the TSC splitter on a TC33D for two seasons with no problem at all. Cycle time seems pretty much like a consumer gas-engine splitter, and the splitter easily pivots to vertical for big stuff. The $550 is a bummer, though. If you're a welder, or just want to be impressed, look at Dave Barrett's log splitter project /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Great thread! That's an impressive splitter. If I had heavy enough welding equipment I'd probably attempt it, but my stuff (Miller 135) isn't heavy enough to weld on the I-Beam.

It's good to hear that the tractor has enough (from your thread) Now the question is whether to spend the $ on a 3pt or standalone. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dave,
I use a 3pt Bush Hog splitter (they no longer make splitters) on a B21 with out problem. The cycle time is a little slower than I would like but I wear out long before the splitter gives up. Do keep in mind you need a rear remote or hook up off of the FEL controls to run the splitter.

The 2910 has a flow of 6.4 GPM. That should run a splitter. It may not be fast but it should get the job done.
You will need the remote hydraulic outlet. (Part # 6C040-9510-0)???? May have changed since 2000.
A set of hoses will also be needed to hook up the splitter valve.
Make sure you have the inlet and outlet of remote hydraulic outlet connected to send oil to 3PH when splitter is not hooked up. Not having it hooked up could cause damage to tractors hydraulic pump.

Dave,

Just to add to what I said and Ron was saying the splitter will have its own control valve but still needs to be tapped to the tractor system. On the B21 this is a factory item for the backhoe but is not provided on the other B series tractors. Because you are still deciding between the 3pt and standalone check the price of a rear remote, they are kind of pricey. Others have tapped into the FEL control valve for a hydraulic source but it will require some longer hoses. Whether you are using a rear remote or the FEL control you tie back the control valve so you have a continuous flow and control the splitter with its own valve.

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Looks like I'll be poring over the shop manuals I ordered for the tractor.

Have a good one,
