6000 dollars max now allowed by the govt. And the attorney cant get any other money except 'out of pocket' expenses. Thats the Law.Even the out of pocket expenses are up to the scrutiney of SS.
Social Security Disability Benefits

$6000 + per client for the $10 per hour office girls doing all the work is not bad pay for the Law Office.

Here's another side of the SS question. I have a relative who worked hard all of his life, until he found out he needed a new kidney. Thinking his job as a welder was detrimental to his health he went back to school for 2 years and got a degree in computers... just as the .com went bust. He is on SS now because no health insurance will touch him; and without Medicaid (Medicare?) his meds would cost his entire month's paycheck.
It seems like there should be a happy medium which would allow him to work a decent job, and still be able to get some assistance.

Have him check into it because I know a guy that is a medical condition that is not going to get well and he told me he can make just a tad over $700 every month and not mess up the about of his monthly check. It has to be working for someone else and not mowing grass, installing vinyl siding, etc working in his own business.

Go straight to SS office to get the real story.

Help me understand this. A person has a bad back and gets on SS disability. Why couldn't the person work a job that did not involve the back. Get paid to get retrained if necessary. If a person is going to be setting around the house, why couldn't he be setting around at a office type job and drawing a paycheck? Ken Sweet

Not sure, but let me try. My wife is on disabily due to being smashed up in a car wreck (not her fault). Her back is part of the problem as her pelvis was crushed and her surgeon suspected she had hairline fractures in spinal area for which no treatment but contributes to the pain etc. Now in her case, someone could easily spend a little time with her and ask as you did. Later that day she may not find a "comfortable" position be it sitting, standing, lying down and be in constant flux to find that temporary relief. So while she can be productive, it's really not in a manner conducive to employment. She rarely even mentions pain let alone complain, but I can tell by watching. She gets private disability, but that is reduced dollar for dollar by her SS and her last check wont be a penny more than her first. Oh and just for comparison, her lifetime SS disability from time approved until age 65 wont even total what many White House staffers get for ONE year.

That sai, I've also known some pikers and I wish there was a way to fix em.

I do sympathize with your wifes condition. My Oldest Son was in a motorcycle vs car pulled out in front of him accident about 5 years ago and could have qualified for disability. He still has pain about 1/2 the time. When he is hurting, he does business on the laptop from the recliner or where ever he can get comfortable. On good days, he works on the farm and in his shop. I am proud that he is still a productive member of society.

Update: My employee hiring luck is improving. I just hired another local fellow about 1 week ago and he is doing super. I think I found the last 2 in the county that were not drawing? Ken Sweet

'Morning Ken,

Glad to hear that it's working out well for you. I stand by my earlier comment that anyone who wants and is willing to work instead of drawing every penny possible out of the public coffers deserves the chance to do so. Even if it's only a temporary job until something better comes along. That attitude of willingness needs to be rewarded somehow and I commend you for giving them the opportunity.:thumbsup:

Thanks for the Thumbsup. I may take after my Grandfather, He ran a very large construction/hardware store until 1959 when he retired. He gave many men that had fell on hard times a second chance. I worked for the Company in 1964 and 1965 and all workers would gather at a designated place before being dispatched to their particular job for the day. At that time, my Uncle, was running the Company and we would start each day with a prayer for safety on the job and for give thanks for the blessings that we had. Ken Sweet

Thanks for the update and thankfully it was positive.

Last week I met with our last three new hires as a group for the first time after since they have been employeed which is 2-6 months. They are 20 year old college kids that work the phones prospecting very hard the hours they work.

They are all three impressive and yet very different. I did learn a lot about them since I am not involved with normal hiring so I knew little about them.

Over all I am positive about the next generation. Not all them are impressive with the spending mess that our generation has caused/permitted. Hopefully WI over the past few weeks has been a learning time for all of us.
