You have received a lot of advice, you just need to separate the wheat from the chaff. One thing if buying a tractor from a private party, make sure there is not a lien on the tractor. If there is and the seller stops making payments, the bank will repossess the tractor. You will be out your money with not much chance of recovering it. I would buy new, go for the zero percent and get all the implements you need at the same time.

Please don't make the mistake of not getting SSQA! IMO, it's as important as 4wd. I speak from experience.

Definitely as stated above and go with the bigger choice if possible. 28 hp is a little light in both engine and frame for clearing land. You can do it but it will be harder and you will have more issues. That size is more suited to driving on and mowing yards, tending stalls and moving stuff around in confined areas. Very handy just a bit. light for much of the big stuff IMO. I have had no issues with my Tier 4 rig beyond figuring out how to address it's needs a time or two.

I think if your intentions are to sell in a few years, your best bet is the Kubota. It will retain its worth much longer than any other brand and sell easier. I think any of the tractors listed may do the job but the L 3901 with HST would work well, not be taxed in any job and sell for nearly what you paid for it if stored inside and not mistreated.

If the trailer isn't a must have now or you already have one then I would simply go and test run the Kubota and the Mahindra 1526. See which one feels the best to you and buy it.

All tractors will hold their value well and its my experience both selling and buying that no particular brand holds its value better than the next except in the minds of those overpaying for a used machine on a dealers lot.

Holding their value and being able to sell for that value is a totally different animal. Kubota tractors always sell better than any other brand whether new or used. Given a Kubota and any other brand for sale side by side with similar values and the Kubota will always sell first and for more money. As Paulfun9 says, it is all in the eyes of the beholder and it seems there are more Kubota beholders than any other.

Have to agree there. Sold a couple Kubota's over the years and they were really easy to sell and always had more buyers than I needed to receive a very fair sales price.

The times they are a changing....

Ask a Deere fan and he'll say the same thing the Kubota fans are saying here.

Not my experience when selling.\

You remind me of a friend who used to brag about the resale of his Harley being so great. He went threw just as many bikes as me and always bragged about how he sold his for more every time. It wasn't until the 5th bike that I pointed out that I actually sold mine for more when you do the math as a percentage based on the buy-in price when new. Yep not only did I pay less when I purchased but I lost less when I sold them and the one bike that cost about the same actually sold for more based on that percentage as well.

Now don't get me wrong I have nothing bad to say about Kubota overall but watching private sales for the last 5 years I haven't seen this big difference in price when the original purchase price is considered and when shopping I couldn't find any reason based on my past experience with Kubota to rate their machines at a higher value than anything else out there. So I just don't get it and probably never will but when I get done cleaning up the 2 Kubota tractors I picked up for a song I will definitely hope for one of the people who think like you do and ask for way more that its worth. You know as they say in the used car business "there is a sucker born every second"
