Truck shopping

I live around Atlanta GA. A great place to buy vehicles as we rarely see salt or brine on roads. My 2004 Dodge has some lower tailgate rust you have to look hard to see and crummy paint.

It's just a theory I have that Ram prices are down due to the recall. Not because of a practical issue. 2020+ Rams aren't even subject to recall, they just paid an EPA fine for incorrect documentation or something like that. But not many people know the details and will assume the worst. And the recall taints the entire line and brand. A lot of people stopped buying gas VWs after their dieselgate.

Replacing the CP4 would be great, but the emissions recall I'm talking about is the one where they fix the defeat device in software: Cummins Settlement Nationwide Recall Program Overview | US EPA
I get what you mean.
For me it means nothing, but the average joe who doesn’t know a piston from a tailpipe might be scared off.

Hopefully the prices will drop and more people will buy them. Great trucks. (y)

Well, I did that “noise” and only have 10 payments left on a 5yr 2.9% loan. Should be worth at least 50K as a 5 year old truck with some warranty remaining and that amazing Cummins diesel.
They hold their value, that’s for sure.
Once the ZF-8 comes along, it’ll be like Christmas all over again.
i'm sure you depreciate it for your business too.

purchase price 5,000 and an average maintenance cost of around 500 per year works pretty well for us hobbyist. The value of my truck has actually gone up from purchase time. The 90s and early 00s trucks are coming back as a simple, cheap, reliable alternative to todays options for us millennials that want the ways we grew up in the country back after 15 to 20 year careers in industry.

I just saw a page of trucks like mine 20-22 5500’s with a Cummins ask prices were $75,000 if they had options like mine has.

I think I paid about $80K 4.5 years ago.

Truck-wise I am in a very good place and couldn’t be happier.

I still want one of these, with a 5.9L Cummins

When I was young and in my prime........

I worked for the Forrest Service between my Junior and Senior year in highschool. We had three Dodge Power Wagons - just like Eddie shows in post# 24. They were dark green - had a water tank mounted in the bed and a very large hydraulic disk on the rear. Used to fight brush fires.

Lightning would hit a barbed wire fence. At each steel post it would go to ground and start a fire in the brush/grass.

We would drive those Power Wagons to the fire. We could do three things. Wide trench with the hydraulic disk. Back fire with P-cans filled with jellied petroleum - spray water to slow the oncoming burn.

Actually we seldom used the jellied petroleum. We ran down wind of the oncoming blaze and back firing would have been of no help.

Since that time I've always wanted a Power Wagon. They are available and completely restored - but WoW - $$$$$. Last site I checked - around 150K per truck.

So - in 2018 I bought a brand new Ram 2500 HD Power Wagon. I call it the Taco Wagon. Completely different story.

It's my only highway vehicle - it's my fun vehicle. I do not haul, I do not tow - I'm retired. It's my time to have fun.
