Truck rant. And don't know what to do.

I’m no expert on the Ford F-150 tow packages. The max tow doesn’t really add tow capacity beyond the lower tow package, but it does include some good stuff, like 36 gallon tank, a slightly stronger hitch, so while it does add some capacity, not a lot. The easiest way for me to tell of it has the tow capacity is by the trailer backup knob.

Im not trying to beat a dead horse here but you are writing off Ford when it sounds like you like them. In my experience the other makers aren’t any more clear on their tow capacity.

I don't know how new trucks are but newer cars suck !

GF has a 2015 Hyundai. It burns more oil than gasoline ! I know I'm stretching it a little, but to design cars to burn 1 qt of oil per thousand miles is just unacceptable to me .
When discussing this with the service Dept. , they claim it's normal these days. said they also own the Toyota store next door and toyota specs. the same .

I have owned vehicles my entire life and never had a vehicle to burn a qt of oil between 5 K changes.

So, I did a little research on the matter, and sure enough, car makers are building engines with less tolerances, causing less friction, which results in getting better gas mileage as mandated by the government !

Burning that much oil causes other issues, it shortens sensor life and spark plug life, and who knows what else !

I have no idea what you gain by getting better fuel mileage at the expense of burning more oil !

Are newer trucks required to meet these same gasoline mileage mandates ? IDK, but it may be worth checking into before you make the purchase. I found all my info on the hyundai forums

I'm closing in on 80 years old and have had a lot of trucks in my time. They ALL have problems, if not sooner then later.

I've had two GMCs, a 2014 and now a 2020. Both have been problem free and reliable. Can't say I love them (I reserve that for sports cars) but I sure appreciate that the trucks do their thing with no fuss and no problems -- that's what I want from a truck.

To be honest, if you really value reliability, then statistically Toyota is your best option. Unfortunately they dropped the ball and let their previous generation get very stale -- it ran from 2007 to 2021 with mainly cosmetic tweaks and minor mechanical/tech updates. They had terrible fuel economy and never attempted to compete with engine technology against the big 3. So the used ones will be outdated and behind same-year used trucks from the big 3. But if you can swing a new 2022 Toyota Tundra, they are extremely competitive. Time will tell if they are reliable, but statistically it's a good bet. The 2022 Tundra would sure be on my shopping list right now (they were not in 2014 and 2020).

I think the Dodge Ram is the better bet.

your 2004 like my 2007 doesn't have all the emissions crap to screw up.
Pre 07.5 models were the best cummins engines

I call BS as well. But do some research on the subject. you'll find out what I did. They are now build, designed with less friction on the cylinder walls causing oil to get on top of the piston .

Several of the forums discuss these issues.
I haven't researched the trucks as I'm not in the market for one

The dodge Hemi screw up is also BS. but it's happening. And from my research, Dodge doesn't plan any changes to their Hemi
