Truck bed trailer?

Don't make it a goose neck. You'll just be trading your truck bed space for the same amount space in your trailer bed. If you change axles you won't be using the same tires on the truck and trailer. Don't bother lowering it. If you want to get into all the work building a GN, different axle, lower load height, etc just build a trailer from scratch. I wouldn't build it without brakes. The little bit you'd save by not running brakes isn't worth the risk.

with the brakes Issue would some what depend on the laws of the state your in as well, as some require brakes on any thing over 1000 pounds, and that would be gross weight of the trailer and cargo.

i made one about a year ago here in usa ca. and went to reg it and they told me that i had to take the truck axle out and put a trailer axle under it.
and that was a new law i was kinda upset went home and looked it up
they past that law about 3 or 4 years ago
i dont know if thats everywere or just in cali. so might want to do some homework first

One trick to the axle on a floating axle is to saw or torch the chunk out, saving it for sale later. then welding in a pipe that will slid over or inside your axle tubes. It works great. Some of the nicer equipment haulers here used them and they look factory. I have one from an old Chevy stepside truck we traced for. It came off a farm i need to redo the hitch. I only offroad use it either here or at the landfill I work at for fence mantenance. I have an old conveyor beltlaid in the bottom and one end wrapped around a crude winch. I use it to drop compost on my garden when its too we to drive to dump truck into the garden.
