I recently got an old Horse Tiller going(1959?) It ran like a beast while I was tilling my new garden spot, but the following day I noticed that the axel would slide from side to side when in neutral and one of the axel seals would go in and out as the axel moved. I am guessing that the seals need to be replaced. Is there anything else that may be associated with this problem. Does anyone have any pictures regarding this problem, I'm a visual learner. Does the axle need completely removed or just recentered and resealed?

Does this look like the correct part? Amazon.com : Troy-Bilt Horse Tiller - 2 Axle Seals (9621) : Patio, Lawn & Garden

Will this be the only part required to fix my problem? Am I asking the right questions?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look here for a parts manual, or perhaps here if the first one doesn't have it. Between the two, I've had pretty good luck in finding things I need.

I found a good manual, but it says that if the shaft moves more than 1/4in in any direction to call the factory. Its a 1959 tiller, probably wont be helpful. Do you know why it may be moving from side to side like it is?

Without looking at an exploded diagram of how it's put together I couldn't say for sure, but it would have to be excessive play in some component, possibly where it joins the differential, if they say call the factory.
