Trouble with threaded mode

Sometimes when I try to view threads in threaded mode I will either get a blank screen or the first message in the thread and a blank screen where all of the messages in the thread should be listed. When this happens the only way to be able to read all the messages in the thread is to change to Hybrid mode. Is there anything I can do to make threaded mode work all the time?
