Trouble with rotary mower shear pins

My JD 4105 has a push/pull electrical switch on the dash to engage the pto,,

The first time I used the pto, I thought "OH NO, the pto does not work!!" , because it literally took seconds for the pto to soft start.

My pto was fine, it just has a super soft startup of the pto,,even though it is controlled by an electrical switch.

I can engage my mower at full rpm's,, it just slowly comes up to speed.

Could it be that the tractor needs an adjustment? I know my tractor is a JD,, but, you would think the electrical pto would be at least similar,,,

CADplans: JD engineers were wise to devise the soft start PTO, my Mahindra and most others engage abruptly, which takes some getting used to after many years of the old gearbox tractors on which one can feather the clutch. Kind of makes slip clutch on rotary mower more attractive than ever.

I have the switch for the automatic or manual pto, start/stop with clutch peddle. But I am pretty sure its still just an electrical switch, which means no feathering. I'll have to try it when I hook up to something again that has a PTO.

Can you guys switch it on with the clutch pedal pushed in and then slip it from there like what we do with lever-engaged PTOs?

I have slip-clutches on the tiller's & flail's shafts and prefer them to shear pins on others I've had. (rotary BH gone now :))

My M6040 has a PTO engagement lever that allows feathering.

I have a similar problem, over 5 years of using the old tractor never broke a shear pin now with the LS I was breaking them like crazy i have switched to grade 5 and engage the PTO at idle and slowly bring up the RPM it has worked Okay so far but i will try the other position on the PTO switch and see if that improves the situation, my guess is that it will since the clutch will engage the PTO
