Trouble installing third wheel wieght on 3720

I got 6 wieghts for the rear tires on my 3720. The dealer was waiting for hardware and just sent me 6 boxes of bolts. I feel pretty stupid but I could only figure out how to hook up two wieghts on each wheel. I also had to go and buy some 4 1/2 inch bolts to do it. I think I tried every possible way to see if I could get three together. The dealer told me a max of three 55 lb wieghts could be put together. I got no documentation but am going to ask for some. I get the two wieghts on and the third one will cover the bolts on the second one but nothing lines up to attach the third one to any threads..:confused2: what am I screwing up? lol

Wheel weights are installed one at a time with the nuts facing outward, each weight has its own set of bolts and nuts. This allows you to remove them one at a time without getting hurt or when needing to modify your ballast.

Typically there is a starter set of hardware and additional hardware for additional weights. The first weight connects to the wheel, the second weight attaches to the first weight, then the third weight is attached to the second weight.

A picture posted of one of the bolt kits with them laid out would help visualize what you are faced with, and maybe how they go with attaching each weight.

It looks to me as if your weights were designed to be assembled (3 in your instance) with 3 bolts and then the set of 3 installed on the wheel. ie - 6 equidistant bolt holes.

That's how I did these two 100 lb. weights that look to have the same bolt pattern as yours.

I spent part of the morning screwing around with those weights, they sure do not make it easy. For some still reason Deere does not have installation instructions for the weights. To install 3 weights with the hardware that John Deere sent, I am pretty sure you need to put one weight on the inside of the rim and the other two on the outside. What might be best though, after fooling around with them for awhile, is to buy some nice heavy bolts, come from inside the rim, and go through all 3 weights and bolt them together. I would credit you for the hardware we gave you.


- I am thinking the long bolts are going to be the way to go but they will have to be long and strong. I am not putting a weight on the inside of the rim and having to pull the tires off the heck with that!

You have to have the weights facing the other way (inside out from how you have them) to install more than 2 per side.

Never even thought of that- thought the fancy side should be outward. With your pictures and the hardware that JD sent me I think this makes sense.

Looks like they are backwards. One of the other posts said that you should bolt each weight seperatley. I think that is correct. If I understand correctly, the first set of bolts go through the rim with the heads on the inside and you bolt the first weight on, and then you put another set of bolts in that weight, with the bolt heads from the back. Then you attach the next weight to that set of bolts and so on until you get all three on there. The inside weight might be different than the other two or need to be backwards. They should go on there.

Correct on the attachment, every weight does need the "fancy" side inward. Think of it like the outward wide "grooves" are like handles so you can have the weights flat against each other and still be able to hold the outer weight tight against without smashing fingers.
