Tried out a 4320 this weekend...are these loud tractors?

Or is it just me? We've got all sorts of equipment here on the farm and I don't think anything we have is as loud as that 4320.

Anyone care to chime in?

I have a fairly new (8 mos) 4320 open station and really like it. I did notice it seemed loud compared to my other tractors but it seemed to get better with time or maybe I'm just getting used to it. It seems worse when it is cold. But, it's not nearly as noisy/loud as the MF 1045 it replaces.

I have a 4520 and our dog that walks with other tractors leaves the area when it is started and does not come into the fields when it is running.
My not be louder but the sharpness of the firing is noisy wonder if turbo is the cause.

I have a 4310 that we took in trade and the owner said he doesn't need his ear protection gear with his new tractor.
Seems amazing that with all the plastic which is used to cut the sound still can't bring it below what a steel hooded tractor would be.

I think they're definitely louder than the Yanmar powered tractors I've had/got -- 970 (33hp) and 110 (43hp).

Tedding and raking with the neighbors 4320 is only done with hearing protection; period.

They are loud, but all depends on what you are comparing them to. I leave a pair of muffs on the ROPS. No excuse for not wearing them.

art; Actually, my 3520 is a lot quieter than my former 4310. I had a direct comparison done, when the delivery of the 3520 took place. The 3520 was running at 1500 rpm or so and the guy started up the 4310, and man, was it loud. I always wore ear protection with it, so I did not notice. But when that unit started it up, it was so loud. At least in my case the 4310 (80 hours), was louder than the new 3520.

Similar experience here. I currently have both 4320 OS and 3720 cab and the 4320 is much louder when standing along side of either. Of course the 3720 is much quieter inside the cab.

Cab makes it very nice and can even use a cell phone when it is running. Could it be that the muffler is out front and not pointed at the sky??

I think it has to do with the injector pump and valvetrain.
