Thanks for the comments. At this point I am awaiting a call from the person who actually made the decision to deny charges. I have a few points that I will address in our conversation but afterwards plan on letting the issue rest. My goal has always been for the thieves to have been taught a lesson and, while they are not getting an official punishment, believe they have learned that lesson. I see no reason to pursue this civilly as the only potential result I see is a court requiring restitution and it's never been about the money to me. I must admit to having a bit of reluctance given the attitude of the famale thief but it appears that I am at the point of diminishing returns (my time & efforts vs. the likelihood that they will receive a misdemeanor charge).

I will update the thread again after I speak with the decision-maker. Thanks again to all those who have followed this saga from the beginning.

At this point, I don't think you'll have any more problems with them. But there's always the chance that if they are on the lower tier of social behavior, if further charges are pursued, they might start thinking of ways to get at you again.

Now, I didn't say warn them. That's what the "POSTED" signs are for. Warning them would ruin the game!

sorry but that reminds me of an old joke, Farmer put a sign up on the fence around his water melon patch, "ONE OF THE MELONS IN THIS PATCH IS POISONED" next day he goes out and sees where some one wrote on his sign "now two of them are::laughing: but I agree 100% time to stop fooling with the law, they are useless.
QUOTE=The Haymaker;2929468]Call me stubborn, but if this has taken 32 (and soon to be more) pages to resolve, I would have eliminated the law from the story by now. Pick the patch closest to their point of entry, spray the berries with something that is sure to put them on the hopper for a while, and don't forget which spot you did it to. Problem solved. Even ignorant people can learn lessons if persuaded hard enough.
