Trencher

I need to lay some drainage pipe to dry up several fields.... Several thousand feet... I am considering a trencher, like Montana sells..... has anyone used one? What are your feelings on it? How much do they cost? Anything else I should know.....

I don't know how much they cost. I did see one on a 5740C at my Montana dealer. How deep of a trench do you need to lay your pipe? Is this a 1 time project to lay the pipe? It sounds like it is. Perhaps renting a trencher would be an option or hiring the job out?

As with all things drainage related you have to ensure that everything is sloped properly in the direction that you want it to drain. Would adjusting the contours of your fields be an option?

If I were to buy anything I would buy a backhoe for about the same amount of money or a little more than the trencher. It might take longer but you will have something that you can use more than the trencher.

Also have you call around to see how much it would cost for someone else to do it?

And if you are set on a trencher I would think about renting one vs. buying one. It would be alot cheaper I would think.
