I was working in this neighborhood and saw these trees flying way up high through the air, so I drove over a little closer to get a better look and some pics.

The boom crane truck was parked 2 houses away from where the trees were being removed, a tight stand of 5 or 6 80+ ft evergreens.
The neighbors must have all been in agreement to allow such an operation, A little hairy moving 2' in diameter tree trunks right over peoples houses.

Thanks for the pics -- that's pretty cool!

Man, that has got to be an expensive way to take out a tree, though. The guys around here that would take out a tree like that just get out their climbing spurs and belt, along with a Stihl MS200T. They climb the tree, cutting off the limbs and lowering them down as they go up.

Once they reach the top, they start chunking it up into firewood sized pieces and dropping it down as they come back down. Works pretty slick. One guy working on the ground is chipping the branches as they come down. Firewood is left for the home owner.

It takes about an hour to drop a 60' tree.

Yea I had a tree climber take down a 70 ft choke cherry at my old house in the time it took me to get dressed and eat my breakfast! The tree was right on property line with a fence, no damage.

Don't now why these guys chose the crane, if there was clearance issues or what, don't know if you can see by picture but there's a tether line attached to the crane and the guy up in the tree would hook up to that to move up and down and between the trees, unhook when they would move the big pcs and wait up in the trees, I imagine they hoisted him up there initially!

Several years ago we had some pretty nasty tornadoes on our area. My in-law's neighborhood had quite a lot of downed trees. The insurance company hired a tree service and rented a crane. They came through the neighborhood and got all of their customers' back yard damaged trees out one after the other by lifting them over the houses and out into the street. Pretty neat and fast.
