ok which one of you smart fellows built or know how to build a tree spade???? I would like a little one for my 25 hp kubota.

Seems like I remember one with hand driven spades. Should be easy enough to make but could be a lot of work to use /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

An eBay search for "tree spade" will pull up a variety of spade styles. Some of the shovels can hook on to the loader frame of a small tractor.

Has anyone made one of these yet? I have about 200 3'-5' pines to move along with some apple trees. I'd like to hook to my tractor hydraulics and use the FEL quik tatch on the Kubota L3830.

I've dug many that size or bigger by hand. It was a real PITA, but still took less time than it would probably take to build one of these.

Or you could contact a local landscaper who has a spade; he may be willing to dig for a fee, or in exchange for some of the trees.

I too long for one of these - has to be this year or next to be of use to me. I have a friend who used to be in the landscape business who described a different kind. It was on his Yanmar in place of his bucket and basically was a frame that held something that looked like a piece of pipe that had been cut off on a wicked slant. The longest part was on the bottom and you drove in and scooped down at the same time - great for small trees and bushes and good in rocky ground according to him. If anybody has more info on something of that style, I'm interested. I planned to look at converting my bucket for some kind of quiktach arrangement soon /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif This would be a good reason to do it.

Hand driven spades....that's the Tree Toad. Might as well use a backhoe. I can't imagine driving 6 spades into our clay with a post driver.....I'd get a chainsaw, cut the bugger off and start over. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
