Good show!! You certainly DO need some trees to curb the winter winds. I think I can see the curvature of the earth in that one picture.

Are you planting for resale?

In SW Colorado, chokecherry and serviceberry is more of a 'bush' than a 'tree'. My job, when I was young, was to sit on the trunk, to bend it down so my parents could pick the berries.

To this day, my favorite jelly is chokecherry.

Planting shelter belts. This new one isn't in the picture. It runs across the top of this picture.

That makes sense of the choices. And, if you can... you'll have a crop to boot!

Enjoy! Back in 1989 we planted alternating rows of white pines and mixed hardwoods. Rows of pine grow fast in pyramid shape and stress the hardwoods in the alternating rows to make them stretch for the sun... goal is tall, straight veneer lumber after I'm dead! Anyhow.... 28 years later, the pines are well over 40' and 12" diameter. Hardwoods are poking out the tops. Its a good measure of time to see the changes every year. We just started getting acorns on the white pines two falls ago. Deer and turkey are abundant. No squirrels yet.

Yeah, I planted my first shelter belt 10 years ago. It has done really well. Since then I have planted four more. Fun stuff. We have been getting some rain since we planted next week. Very excited about that.
