transmission temp problem

i just bought a 6210 john deere cab tractor with 640 loader. when i got home with it, i started pulling a sub soiler after about 30 to 45 min the transmission temp light started blinking at me. i killed the tractor waited about 1 min and restarted the tractor after 10 mins light started blinking again. any ideals??

I'll admit, I dont even know what a JD 6210 looks like, but I bet is a hydro...correct?

If it has low range, make sure you are using it. Look for the transmission cooler and make sure it is not plugged with grass, mud, etc. Pulling heavy draft impliments is not the strong point of hydro transmissions.

Welcome to TBN, twhite85. Those sub-soiler's pull "hard"!! Not many other implements pull as hard as that... plow, disc harrow, chisel plow - are a grunt, too - but a sub-soiler is in a class by itself!

If you can't drop a gear and go a bit slower and you've already hit the radiators - engine, air conditioner and transmission - with the air compressor... well, that's about all you can do besides get a smaller sub soiler or set it shallower in the ground and do several passes.

Are the rears filled or have wheel weights - duals? Oh yeah, hope you're not just shutting the tractor off while hot... very hard on turbochargers (bearings) and not real good overall for the engine, either. Temp will ramp up above shutdown point without coolant circulation - better to let it just idle for 15 minutes or so.

No it is a manual transmission I think. It also got hot dragging the pasture with 3 old tractor tires

I just looked up your tractor, you should not be having any problem with a subsoiler (you probably know that already). Sorry, I just assumed you had a compact tractor like so many on here.

I assume you checked the trans fluid. Next, change the filter. Does the trans feel hot to the touch? Since you just got the tractor, maybe someone put the wrong kind of fluid in it. Last, maybe the electrical circuit that works the light is faulty.

Sorry I can be much more help. If the trans is cool to the touch, I would bet on a faulty circuit or temp sensor. BUT, that is a huge gamble without knowing for sure. I would personally get a shop manual (most can be purchased online in pdf format for a reasonable price). Then I would track down that sensor and see what I find. You could warm the sensor and see what temperature kicks the light on, or if it just comes on for no reason at all. A call to the service department at a good dealer would be a good place to start too. Good luck.
