Transmission Stuck in Two Gears

My JD 1050 has been getting stuck between two gears when I shift and tractor wants to stall out. I have to take the shift lever cover off and align/adjust the shift forks by hand then all is well until it happens a number of times in while snowplowing. I replaced the detent ball bearings and springs over the summer for other reasons. The weird part about it is that the fork that is getting stuck is the 3rd/4th gear and I am only using 1st, 2nd, and Rev.

I'm not a "registered mechanic" but it sounds like the fork alignment is out of whack.

When the fork moves from one gear cluster to the next is it "dragging" and causing the 3rd-4th gears to mesh together?

I think I'd look for unusual wear or slop in the fork arm.

Are both shift levers engaged at the same time? That should not be possible. There are "lock-out" pins in between the shift rails to prevent the engagement of both shifters at once. If it is happening, then one of the pins is either missing, worn, or broken. Or it could be that the rail is damaged where the pin engages. Did the problem exist before you changed the detent balls and springs? What was the reason for changing detents? Is that problem solved now?

The 1050 only has one shift lever to go through the gears and one lever to change range. There are pins that detent into the shift rails (horizontally) as well as the detent balls (vertically).

I split the 1050 the other day and found that the "lock-out" pins were not in the machine at all. Installed new ones and all is well. Thanks.
