I have a Ford 4000. While bush hogging a rough area with bushes and thick weeds, I noticed oil seeping up around both gear shifts. I kept running and maybe a total of 1/2 cup eventually came out. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Never seen this happen before and I've run this tractor pretty hard for several years now.

Your transmission breather tube is pluggef with crud. I'm suprised you didn't pop a seal instead. If you run it hard.......Maintain it the same way...hard.

Thanks 5030. Where is the transmission breather located on this tractor?

I have no idea but I know there is one. The transmission case has to vent to atmosphere as it heats up from use. If it don't. the oil comes out somewhere, in your case (lucky) it came out around the gearshift. I'd look for a rubber hose or metal tube coming off the case, extending vertically down, or, on the top of the case a serpentine hose. Thats how my Kubota's vent the gearcase. It's right on top, about 3" long. Mine have metal wool in the end.

I guess I'm not looking hard enough but I haven't found it yet. Hopefully someone has a Ford 2-3-4000 and can tell me where the transmission vent is located.

Might want to send PM to "Soundguy" (his user name on TBN), he is the Ford guru on here. He will know where the vent is.
Another thought, are the shift lever boots cracked or has tractor been setting out in rain recently since last used? if so, possible that rain water has gotten in transmission reservoir and is now over full causing it to foam and vent out. Few years ago I had a little Kubota with gear shift and no place to store under cover, about every 2 years the shift boot would crack open so could rain enter and give me similar problem.

I tend to agree with you. My guess is you have water in the system and it's now overfull.

You need to investigate and see if there is water in there.
