I have been reading some post about changing the hydro oil in the tranny. My manuel doesn't have a change interval listed. It does say change the filter every 100 hours. I just changed my filter the other day. I am guessing I had 120+ hours on it. The oil looked good and I just added about a quart to top it off. After changing filters it seems like I have a little more speed. My son even noticed it. I would say the filter is doing it's job and after so long it just needs replaced.

I think the oil in the unit may be a 'for life' oil but we'll see. If Cub doesn't list a change interval then I think they feel confident it is good for life. But obviously if you do something to make the oil get overly hot that is something to cause a reason to change it out

This topic seems to come up at least once a year. I did a lot of research into it, and concluded that you can survive either way. Change it if it makes you feel good, or if performance is sluggish and a filter change doesn't resolve it. Otherwise just stick with what the manual says.

I hear that. As far as I know, the 2K series manual has never mentioned changing the ~6qts of trans oil. However, it's always spec'd a transmission filter change after the first 10hrs, after the first 50hrs, then every 100hrs after that. Many of us who have done trans oil changes have noted some gray, cloudiness to some of the oil as it's draining out the first time or two you change this oil. Is it really needed? Under certain usage I think it is. (stored outside, washing unit with water, not running it up to temp to name a few)

I know my oil has been changed twice. I usually have my unit serviced by the dealer. I know that changing the oil and filter in the tranny was part of the service that was performed. The last couple of years I have been servicing it myself.
I am impressed with the transmission on the 2500 series. I have never had to add oil to it. I check it and it's always on the mark.

Hi,I recentlly purchased a used (329 hr.) 95? CC 1440 Hydro trans. The owners manual states trans oil and filter change needed at 100 hrs. I'd like to make sure maintenance is updated since I don't know the tractors history.I'm starting to go through it to prepare to use as a mower/cart puller this year. The trans oil part # that I have 737-3025 doesn't seem to be available.I have seen synthetic CC hydro oil.Is this an updated type that will work or should I keep looking for the "old type" for this application? More questions to follow. Thanks,Dave the newbie

The older Hydros used "Hy-Tran" oil which should be readily available at any Cub dealer. The newer ones use synthetic but it is really expensive - like $40/gallon. I wouldn't mix the two.

Thank you for the reply. One of the few times in life it's going to be cheaper for me.Works out the other way for me most of the time....

At your cub dealer, Hy-tran is called "Hydraulic Transmission fluid". Hy-trans is the name for it at a Case IH dealer.
