Transmission oil change in Ferris IS700Z

/ Transmission oil change in Ferris IS700Z #11
This is for my 2016 Ferris is600z. I used a hex key tool for the top drain port. I was able to loosen plugs using the below hex key, it's 1/4". You can see the plug from under the seat.(did not have to go under the machine) I just had to reach my hand under and get the hex key attached. One side was harder than the other, but both loosened fairly easily. I hope this helps someone.

Additionally, Hydro-Gear transaxles take 30 weight detergent motor oil for the most part, not gear oil unless specified in the service manual or online on their website. I change mine every 2 years.

HG sells a change kit that makes it much easier.

not sure the kit makes it much easier. Either way you have to take out the drain plug. With the kit you have to screw the fitting onto the port(usually hard access),then pump the oil through drain plug opening...otherwise you just pour the oil into the reservoirs. Either way you still have to purge.

Never an issue removing the drain plug, not that I do that because I don't. I remove the 2 bolts that attach the charge pump cover and drain the units that way. That gets it all out. Far as refilling, I remove the vent hoses and fill them from the top.

changed filters today. Ferris on the is600z has the frame blocking one of the bolts for the filter shield. Needed to get off with a swivel socket and extension, kind of a pain. Vent plugs easily removed, 2 quarts each side before oil started coming out vent ports. Filled to cold mark. Purged jacked up, drove around a bit and had to add more oil. Drove around some more and added more oil again before reservoirs leveled off. Good thing I bought 5 quart jug as 4 quarts would have been short.
