I am at the 500 hr service interval on my 4300 and my dealer recommended replacing the transmission filter and cleaning the suction screen but he said there is no need to replace all of the fluid. I could imagine swapping out the spin on filter w/out draining the fluid first but is this possible with the suction screen. It is at about the lowest point on the transmission housing, which makes sense for filtering purposes, but I would imagine you would have to drain all the fluid first or it would just drain out of the suction screen passage when you remove it. I guess he might have meant that I should drain the fluid and then reuse it after the filter/suction screen service but this does not seem like a good idea either. Any help is appreciated.

My 4710 ehydro calls for a 200 hr service interval on the hyd oil and filters. I don't mess around with this. I just change it at the recommended interval. It's too big of an investment not to IMO and with a hydro tranny the fluid gets a lot more demand put on it. I consider it cheap insurance.

I did the 500 hr service on my 4400 last fall. I changed the trans fluid and cleaned the screen. I don't think you could remove the screen without draining the trans fluid. Whatever you do, change the fluid and clean that screen! I change my engine oil every 100 hrs. I always replace the trans/hydraulic filter and fuel filter when I do an oil change.

I changed my engine oil, filter drain plug & washer, front axle oil, fuel filter and trans oil and filters yesterday at 240 hrs (My dealer did the 50 hr service and I changed the engine oil at 140 hrs). I noticed you guys only refer to one trans filter. I have two trans filters. One trans filter is up over a removable plate in the belly of the tractor and the other is the suction side filter, next to the step. I didn't bother with the suction screen. The parts guy said not to do it. Was that bad advice?

I would say "yes". Mine was covered when I pulled it.

Mike H,
I concur with all others that stated to change the fluid.

My 4400 has only one filter for the trans and hydraulic system, located under the middle of the tractor. My 6400 has a trans filter and a separate hydraulic filter. You might have an added hydraulic system filter if you have a loader.

When I changed my trans fluid on the 4400, I pulled the suction screen and cleaned it. It was coated with fine metal particles. I would definately recommend cleaning it.

Thanks

Anytime I change the oil in my Ehydro I always clean that screen, it's not a bad job to do.

can anyone show me with a photo where is the location of the hydraulic oil filter on my 4100 john deere ?

No photo, but look on the right side of the tranny just under right leg position.

Also, can go to jdparts.com and put in the model number, then go to the alpha list under F for filter. A schematic will pop up there, along with part no. LVU800097 item # 20

Also, the strainer parts shows on the schematic.. should help you locate it as well. item # 33

Hi.
My name is Mario.
I have built my own front end loader on a 4100 John Deere tractor
And now I have some questions regarding the Haudraulic system.
I have installed 3/8” hydraulic hoses, but my lift is very SLOW.
I think that this model tractor had ¼” hoses , do you think that 004.jpg
The 3/8” hoses are too big,? Should I replace them with ¼” ?

No, don't think you should go to smaller hyd. lines. Likely you have cylinders that are larger than were on the OEM FEL, which I'm thinking is giving you slow response.
Might also look for any restrictions in the lines that slows oil flow.

Some testing of pressures in the lines might give a clue if something is amiss too.

I also install new quick connect that are the same as the original wich are シ
I did ask the question at the J.d. dealer /part/repair. The mechanic said that I should go with シ
I知 not so sure if he really care about my problem, that was his quick answer. They wanted for me
To bring the tractor for them to look at. ($$$$$$$) No Thanks.
Thank you
Mario
