Hi,
today my 1042 stopped moving. I stopped to get a belt while doing other stuff, but it's a bit more.

The belt came off of the transmission pulley and wrecked the fan. Then I checked the front part and it didn't look like fun.

So, I'm looking for info.
On the back, I think that I can clamp the hub on top of the pulley with a pliers to take off the old fan. Not sure , but I think that I'd have to grab the pulley itself to tighten it down again with the new fan installed.

In the front, it would seem that I have to remove the PTO drive. It's a fairly simple part - not electric. It's a shaft with a bolt going through it and 2 pulleys for the belts. But the tranny pulley is has shields around it and I don't think that I could get a belt in without doing something. (I did see a video that suggested loosening the motor mounts, but it was a different setup. ). I'm a little worried because it looks like it goes into an oil seal -- which makes sense I guess.

Appreciate any suggestions -- especially if you've actually done this !

Thanks,

hj

Yes. Either remove the pulley or if you can't, remove the 2 nuts to drop the steering rods and remove the 4 engine bolts. Then you can lift the engine with a bar to get the belt around the pulley. Is your fan held with a clip or a bolt. If a bolt, use the belt to grip the pulley.

Thanks for that, but I caved and took it in. Possibly could have done it, but I didn't want it to drag on while my grass was growing by the fiit :).

Mechanic said that the pto pulleys frequently sieze onto the engine, and that they have a special puller -- and of course, a lift.

But, I appreciate the info. I like to do my own stuff and I always like finding out about how to do things.
