transmission additive

Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could help me out.

I have a Kubota L2850 with the shuttle shift transmission. I use Genuine Kubota Super UTD2 in the transmission which is also a part of the hydraulics.
I am have problems at times shifting to reverse but not all the time, I have had success running transmission additives in other vehicles to smooth up shifting and I wondering what would be safe to use in my Kubota transmissions seen it part of the hydraulic system? What a automotive additive be ok?

few questions: how many hrs on tractor? still under warranty? how many hrs since trans/ filters last serviced? hyd level ok? has problem devel over time, or sudden? have you run the problem by the dealer (if avail)? describe specifically what the problem is when shifting into reverse

you are already using the best hyd fluid K has to offer. personally, would not recommend additives...the problem might be remedied by a linkage adjustment in the system, however i am not familiar with your set up as my shuttle is hydraulic, not shuttle shift.. am sure you'll receive lots of advice from other members. but no, would not consider an additive @ this point best of luck

I would investigate LubeGard. They make many products for transmission fluids-automotive, industrial, etc. and might have something for your application. From personal experience, I have used their products in my vehicles in the past. They have an additive package that you pour in with Mercon LV to convert it to Mercon V. A lot of people poo poo'd me for using it but it works! They have pages and pages of customer testimonials regarding their product and if it didn't work they wouldn't be in business for very long.

If your tractor is under warranty, I'd certainly try that route first but if it's past, then do what you want.

Personally, I have NEVER known of an additive that I'd put in one of my vehicles. And I'd sure recommend you talk to a dealer before spending money on additives.

I only add additives when I am using inferior oils do to emergencies! The Kubota oil you are using is better then 95 percent of the copycat oils that say they will work!

Bought it second has two weeks ago. Unsure of the hours it has, I gave it a full service including hydraulic fluid change with genuine kubota and hydraulic filter change. The problem is hard shifting only to reverse, sometimes it just slips in easy and sometimes it wont budge.

apologize for my ignorance... is this a geared tractor? sounds either clutch or shuttle linkage adj issue. have you asked previous owner about the problem?

My L3650 did that. It will get worse unfortunately. If the shuttle is not shifted correctly the gears get burrs on them and will not slip into alignment. Had to have my tractor split and damaged parts replaced. No amount of additive or oil change will fix it. You can drain your tranny and pull the plate off from the side and see the problem. My tractor was bought used also but I am almost sure my problem came from an employee shifting the shuttle under power.

Seems like I will have to rebuild part of the gearbox. Although as I said above sometimes it just slips in and sometimes it doesn't.
