Transmision vent tube?

Is there a vent tube on a L245DT? I have blown out two axle seals and notice a little pressure when I remove the cap.

I bought a l225 a month or so ago and have the same question. I have not had any seals blow out yet but I have noticed pressure on the filler cap when I remove it after the tractor has warmed up.

I don't have that model tractor, but I know that all gearboxes should vented as from as I'm concerned. My front axle on my BX2200 released pressure when I released the cap. I tapped in a vent there. My main transmission already has a vent. My Kubota dealer said that the front axles were not vented because Kubotas were made to run in deeper water (rice paddies). I'll keep mine on the higher ground, but hope that I won't blow any seals. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I may try to put one in then. The hydraulics pump fluid from the tranny as well so would a vent be required for them as well or would fluid squired out of it??? I know my tires are refered to as rice tires because the lugs were longer than most I have seen.

I have thought about this and wonder.....if the fluid gets warm and expands enough to create pressure ( a concern we have both expressed at this point ) does that mean that the crankcase ? would draw in fresh air as it cooled...would the fluid have to be changes more often ??

I live in a high humidity aera where I see everything destroyed by it.

Yes tranny vents are a mixed blessing. They do draw in moist air when they cool and it condenses causing moisture in your tranny fluid. But if you don't have a vent they can be difficult to keep seals in. On the Kubota front axle no vent thing, maybe the front end rarely gets hot enough to need to breathe ?

On a L4850 I use frequently, there is no vent on the axle. After many hours of use in hot conditions, the pressure does build up. At most it would seem to be less then 1 PSI. I doubt any seals are going anywhere with that small amount of pressure. It's not had an issue now in 12 years. I think were going to be OK.

Check your breathers, you may have been hit by a dirt dobber...

I found it.....look carefully at your filler cap. There is a small hole that is on the side of one of the 'wings". Then look at the bottom of the cap and you will see a small hole near one edge. I had to clean mine out with a needle and air....25 years of "gunk" and crud.....look carefully and you will find it.

This should answer the "pressure" problem...

Thanks. I looked on my cap but no hole is there so I drilled on with a 3/16 drill. Ran the tractor for four hours and no oil is venting out the shifter areas. This is where it was most noticible.
