So I'm about to replace the the left side transmission to dropout/final drive seal because it's leaking and contaminating my brake shoes over there... The parts box I got from NAPA has two seals in one box. One with a spring around it and one without. Is one a dust shield for the brake dust and the other the oil seal? Is this normal?

If you open this link, it will take you to the Case/IH parts page, for the 140's diff./final drive exploded view & parts description. :Official Case IH Online Parts Store and Case IH Catalog for Best Parts Search and Best Parts Look Up. Case IH Parts for Case IH Tractors, Case IH Combines, Case IH Tractors, Case IH Manuals, Case IH Parts

It lists #9 as the seal. When you click on the item in the parts listing to get the full part detail, it lists the quantity as 2 per pkg.

I just looked in my I&T manual for my A's, and it shows 2 seals. The inner as being a felt seal, and the outter as an oil seal. I know I have replaced mine in the A's, and the BN, but it has been years ago, and just does not some to mind about the two seals.

So apparently the one without the spring replaces the felt seal, and would go in first. Guess you'll know more when you get into it.
