International 284
Hey everyone, i have a 70's International 284 that i picked up and want to get the fluids changed. I found the fill plug for what i believe is the hydraulic fluid on the top of the PTO. It looks like from what i was able to find on forums that maybe the trans fluid and hydraulic fluid are the same? Is this accurate and if so what weight/type of oil should i use? and if not where might the trans fill plug be and what type of fluid would i use for trans?
Thanks for any help.

Most tractors use the transmission housing as the hydraulic sump. So ya, it's the same fluid.

For anything over 20-30 years old any modern generic hydraulic/transmission fluid is gonna do a better job than what was available back then.

To TBN Jael. Glad that you joined and as you can see, you can get any question answered.

Do you have a Work Shop Manual (WSM) for your tractor? It can answer a lot of questions and give you a wealth of knowledge about your tractor?
