Has anyone else run into this? Yesterday I changed the trans. oil and filter on my GT 2542. Imagine my surprise when I took the filter out of the box and the first digit was different than the number on the box. Both the owner's manual and the filter box read 923-3014. When I took the filter out of the box, the # on the filter was 723-3014. Why in the world would they make one number different on the filter itself?

Both of those are common numbers in the Cub Cadet parts system. PArt numbers in many companies mean different things, like the first digit might be the model grouping of riding mower or walk behind. The second might define it closer and the the third number might have to do with who they get it from. They all do mean something right down to a possible revision in the design of the part. I wouldn't worry about the 7 to a 9 change on the filter.

Thanks Art, it just seemed a little ridiculous to buy a filter with the correct # on the box but wind up with a different # on the filter itself.

They changed the numbers on my mower blades and I think they did so on the belt too. Number started with 9 and were changed to 7.

I went through this when I ordered belts.
