Trailering a CK20, tie down methods

I don't have a photo but let me try describe it. I will assume your drawbar framework is the same as mine which is meant to allow a swinging drawbar. The long thick drawbar itself is not used, you can leave it at home if you want but I leave mine in place. Then you have a drawbar framework which is about 6" wide and bolts to the bottom of the transaxle. In that framework there is an interior square kind of like the frame nose at the front of the machine. This square allows the chain to be dropped through and looped onto itself for independent connection at the rear. True, if the entire framework fell off then you would be in trouble but I have to think that this part of the tractor is quite stoutly built to withstand the entire pulling force of the CK.

for trailering I have 4 hooks, they are aprox 11 inches long with a 5 inch curve, like large fishing hooks, these are attached to chain 3/8, I put radiator hose over hooks to stop them scratching, these hooks are used on tow trucks for holding vehicles safely, anyway they fit over the rear axle and loader arms, do not scratch and with chain binders hold it secure.

I follow the same procedure that Joe describes above. Just thread your chains through the frame space between the left & right sides of the swinging drawbar. Works great and then you don't scratch up any of that pretty orange paint.

Thanks for the additional info guys.

The CK-20 does have quite a bit of swing w/ the drawbar... but
Here's a snapshot of the back of a CK-20 -- can't really tell by the picture if it will work -- I'll look closer on the real thing tonight:

Thanks again.

Don't think it's an option for you. If you look at the attached photo, you'll see the "cage" surrounding the drawbar the Joe & I were referring to - didn't know the CK-20 didn't have it. Back to the drawing board.

Here she is strapped down using that rear cage. Quite a stout connection point.

Bummer, the CK20 looks to be set up with a different drawbar assembly.

Malk,

Here are the pictures that I said that I would PM you. Sorry, these are the best view I can get with the Backhoe on.

I had tried a number of different areas to secure the rear chains but was only able to find the base of the rops the best area to secure to. (I always have an attachment on the rear.) I am actually concidering getting a set of J hooks that the wrecker services use, then I could easily and safely (and no damage) secure around the axle.

Kurt

I install two 5/8" 5000 LB eye bolts up front, just to the side where the brush guard mounts and two 1/2" shackles at the rear in the mid point toplink mounting holes. These points are high enough to keep her from rocking and don't mess up my paint job. I use branches and rocks for that! :p

Nirvana -

without the drawbar installed, I found two grab hooks can hook over the smaller square area the CK-20 has horizontally. I'll take a picture of how my setup ends up so others can benefit. The part that holds the drawbar is very beefy w/ a boatload of weld and strong attachment to the transmission / frame.

Thanks to all for your ideas -- if some some odd reason (I can't see any at the moment) my plan to use the drawbar surrounding square doesn't work out, I'll go w/ KAB's method. I don't plan on hauling any attachments other than my 3-point hitch mounted trailer hitch adapter:

Flexpoint Adapter Turns Your 3-Point Hitch into Versatile 2in. Receiver, Model# FPHS-1 |3-Point Hitch Accessories | Northern Tool + Equipment

Using the drawbar housing for chain attachment, the 3 point hitch adapter can stay on and not interfere.

Now I'm psyched to get the trailer home and get everything setup.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
