Last week I put together a trailer hitch for my JD 790. I used a hitch that I removed from my truck when I installed a new Tow Beast class V hitch

Materials
Used Truck Hitch from 2002 Dodge CTD
2 1/2 x 3/8 strap
2 ea Cat 1 to Cat 2 pins with bushings
a chunk of 2 x 2 tube
a piece of 1 1/4 pipe
1 each 5/16 grab hook ( unable to purchase weldable on short notice)
A little paint

And now you have a basic platform to hang counterweights on....A rig like that is the handiest thing I've ever made, its even the right colour.....

Nice!

The various ideas shared by TBN mambers has given me numerous ideas of my own.

Thanks for sharing!

Built this one last week and put primer on it this morning. Think the hitch might be sticking out too far but it will only be moving an empty trailer.

You could find a shorter ball mount if needed ?--Looks great by the way!!!

Looks great. Be careful, don't make the mistake I did!

Hooked up the trailer, filled the (single axle) trailer with most of the weight in the rear and took off down the trail. About half way back to camp the trailer tounge lifted the 3pt in the air. I forgot there is no down pressure! For that lesson I got to load the wood twice. Cheap enough I suppose.

Now I chain the trailer tounge to the lower drawbar, no more problems. Live and learn!

Nice job. I took my Redland Hill hitch and welded a receiver to it.

Here is the one I built from a Ford Explore Hitch. As you can see I also use it for the 3 point splitter I made and a few other implements I have made like my ripper and trencher.

That's a good idea having the splitter slide into the hitch, so you don't need a separate 3 pt frame on the splitter.
I see you have a drop down leg to support it when in horizontal position. Does it swing up for vertical use? if not looks like you could make it without to much trouble.

The back leg by the hitch area comes off if needed. It utilizes the same hitch tube/pin technology. You can just see it in picture 1. You have to look closely. I originally did not have the front storage leg and built a wood saw horse designed stand but it was wobbly and I was afraid my little ones may get hurt around it. I like that the rear leg has the ability to come off once lifted so that I can level it in the woods via the 3-point.

The rear leg is fixed. Here are some pics to explain.

Pic 2 shows the log cradle I made. Also show is my shop press adapter. I just pull a pin, tilt the cylinder up, pull out the wedge, and insert the shop press. I have used it a few times and it works great.

Pic 3 shows it in the vertical position. It was when I still had the wood saw horse stand.

As you can see I made the splitter so it sticks out the back of the tractor long ways so two people can split with one operating it and the other bring over the wood. Most of the store bought 3 point units went cross ways along the back of the tractor.
