I have a 4200 with loader, 400 hrs, collar shift, that I'm thinking about selling or trading in this year or next and moving into a ten series. I'll probably go with 4210. Basically I'm looking to move up, not in capacity, but to hydrostatic. I was going to ask dealer about transferring 420 loader to new machine, but thought I'd post question here. Should I transfer loader (assuming compatible machine), or get new machine with new loader? Benefit might be some cost savings. Downsides would be reduction in appeal (selling) of old machine plus I would not be starting out with new loader. I have not investigated cost side of this equation. Any comments.

Seems to me that the bottom line would just be the savings to you. If the dealer would like to have your tractor with loader, then he probably would reflect that desire in the difference needed to trade up. As long as the 420 loader will fit your new one, it should be as good as new. Let the money do your thinking for you. To me, can't be much more than that.

I the loader is compatible you would probably come out ahead if it is in good shape. I doubt though, that the mounting hardwear on the tractor will be the same.

IF your loader has the old style hydraulic cylinders (rebuildable type), you may want to keep it. The newer style cylinders are pretty much unserviceable (even though JD says they are and sells the seal kit). The rod guides cannot be removed the way JD has them designed with the riding inner snap ring. Not sure why they changed the design unless they felt they need to sell more pricey cylinders than less expensive seal kits.

Let the potential buying make the decision for you. Find out the cost of a new one and then you'll now how much letting the old one go with the 4200 or not. of course we are assuming the old on fits on the new one. don't forget to add the labor costs. I personally would lean new, and the old one would probably be more attractive with it.
