Need help! I recently purchased a B2910 with loader that I have not used yet for the purpose of doing some residential finish grading and lawn installations and taking care of baseball fields. Most of the lawns are small. I first thought a smaller tractor would be better for getting around but now am thinking a larger 3010 would be better. The 3010 is heavier by far and can handle bigger attachments like a TR3 rake which is around 1000 lbs. The dealer has made a resonable offer for trading the 2910 for the 3010 GST which he needs to get rid of anyway to make room for the new models.
So i guess my question is the 2910 tough enough to handle these task and pull a box blade and pulverizer or should i trade for the much larger 3010 that can handle a TR3 rake which is 900-1000lbs. ? They both have the same displacement 91.5 and HP but the 3010 is about 1000lbs heavier.

Personally, I think the 2910 would be a better choice for that sort of application. There are times you need the extra mass, but working on ball fields and people's lawns..? I have an L3010 and absolutely love it, but it's not for delicate work IMO.

Just my $0.02

Pete, I guess its a matter of perspective, I think of the L3010 being small, the smallest I would even consider. If doing it as simply a hobby, then the 2910 would probably be fine, for hiring out, the L3010 would seem a better choice. Now the L3130 with the new loader is awfully appealing for many with a considerable lift capacity and the new 3 pt. hitch with increased capacity. Not sure what a TR3 rake is but at that weight, it would seem a 2910 is pretty small. My .01 cents worth. Rat... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

A tr3 rake is a box blade/pulverizer/rake on wheels. ....it has a floating drag bar and is great for leveling and ripping out vegetation... it saves time mainly.......it was invented in Indiana by a landscaper for the purpose of using only one tool for ground prep work to install lawns.... it works really well but is a bit expensive..The small 5 foot model weighs over 900 lbs. and goes up from there.

KCH,

I have a b2910. You can get a lot done with this tractor. The L3010 is heavier, and a little bigger too...

If you move to the GST you will give up the HST transmission. Not to start gear-hst wars over again, but the hst can be very nice if you don't feel the need for manual control...I like driving standard shift cars, but I LOVE driving my HST tractor. Both are good, just a personal preference thing.

If you are taking care of grass, the extra weight of the 3010 might work against you. Tire tracks and digging into soft soil under the grass are possible negatives from the extra weight.

I guess if the B2910 will not handle all the attachments you want, then it is a no brainer. Somehow a 1,000 lbs does not sound like it would be too much for the B2910 3ph, but I don't know for sure.

I do know you can get a lot done with the B2910 though. I did a lot of digging and moving earth around my pond after buying mine last summer. I am not sure the L3010 would have do the same work that much faster...but it might have been a little faster as if I remember correctly, the loader can carry a little more.

Sounds to me like if you trade for the 3010, you will get a tractor that is a little bigger, is certainly heavier, may dig into the ground more and damage the grass you want to maintain, and will lack the "ease of use" the hst can provide, at least in some instances.

Oh, by the way, I don't think the 3010 is much larger than the b2910. About 6 inches wider, and a little longer, but not that much. I have not seen them side by side though...

Good luck in your decision!

Dang Henro, how come I have never seen you here? Certainly with those 2 fine cold ones I would have noticed you. You guys with the 2910 and 3010's certainly would know more about these size tractors then me. I would hate to give up HST, at least the one Kubota makes, it is truly a remarkable transmission. Rat....

Your right, a 2910 can handle 1000lbs at the 3 pt. but using a TR3 rake and even a box blade pushing backward is the question. Are the arms on the 3 pt. stout enough or would they prone to bend while pushing backwards. The Tr3 rake is made so you can put the rake down and by pushing backward rip out vegetation. I was told B2910 was weaker in the rear and had smaller arms that would bend easier...............?????

The only reason for a GST was because that is all they have left and because using certain attachments, like the tr3 rake, you need a min. amount of horse power and i was told that when you have a HST you need to subtract 5 HP from the rated HP. So a 30 HP would actually be closer to a 25 HP tractor so I figured with a GST I would have more power while pulling when the rake or box blade is in the ground.

I have been here, just by another name [and no picture]!

Usetawas Macher...but with the new TBN upgrades Muhammad posted that it is now possible to change one's name...something I wished I had done from the beginning...so I applied for a name change and was approved...

Then I naturally had to add a picture to match the new name... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ...That turned out to be much simpler to do than I had thought...
