Hey guys I am new to this site and I am not a mechanically inclined person, so I was wondering if some of yall could help me out. I was wondering what are some problems that might result from a diesel tractor sitting without being used at all for about ten years. I just kinda wanted to get an idea of some problems I may run into trying to get this tractor (belarus 805) up and running and what it might cost to do so. Thanks in advance for any help and advice you may be able to contribute.

parts will be hard to find for that tractor but some problems would be dry rotted seals the motor locked up injection pump problems and hyd problems pluss what the reason for being parked up it could get real expensive real quick

Sitting that long .. does beg the question ... why? I do know, that some frozen engines can be rejuvinated using that "Miracle" stuff .. just takes time and patience .. couple ounces in each cylinder .. gradually move back and forth .. may take a few days to soak ... this told me by one of the ole Traina brothers up in Leggett .. aledegely unfroze gas auto engines unturned for over 30 years.

Now .. another problem .. if it was stored outside .. is the clutch bonding to the pressure plate .. flywheel, or both. It may required to actually split it, to address that issue. I have an '07 Jinma 354 (bought new) that did it one year in .. so tentioning clutches OPEN for long periods of storage (even a few months) is advisable in moist environments ... jmho. Same with trucks .. I have a '78 F600 2,500 gal water truck here .. 1"x2"x3' stick holds clutch open for the winter. Good Luck ... Be Safe :)

Hey guys thank you so much. The tractor was my grandfathers and it has been sitting on some neglected family property in a different state since he passed. Thanks to both of you for helping me with this issue, I just have no idea where to start with this thing.

If the thing was running when they parked it....the main problem would be the fuel would be junk. Diesel and gas do not age well, and loose most of their potency with time. If the tank was not full during that time or if it had water in the tank at the start, it is probably full of algae. I would dump all the fuel out, blow out the lines, put a new fuel filter in it, prime all the lines back full and see if it would start. Then shut it down and change all the other fluids.

If the tractor has been outside and exposed to temperatures, the old diesel fuel will likely have to be drained out entirely, including the tank. I can't see diesel fuel that old being any good, especially if it has gelled a few times while sitting in frigid weather. Tires may be weather checked and some/all of them might not hold air. That's just a couple more things to consider, in addition to what was already mentioned.

Ya see I'm the guy who actually had a tractor sit around Since April of 1999 and didn't try and start it until 2010.

Why do I know the exact date. I sued the dealer that month for not returning my tractor and inflating the work invoice without my approval. He lost the case, but in the meantime I bought a new tractor so when he returned my old 1980's Kubota it just sat. It sat long enough that weeds grew up through every crack on the tractor. Up through the seat area, up through the engine compartment etc. It was looking good as a lawn ornament.

Then I decided to either sell it or just junk it. So I dragged it out of the weeds, flat tires and all. Cut out the weeds, filled up the tires replaced the battery and shoved an old screw driver in the key hole to start it - knowing full well nothing would happen. After all it has almost 15 year old fuel in it.

She chugged, she coughed, she puffed, then she fired right up. The four of us standing around laughed and applauded at the same time.

I checked the fluids, topped them off, put some fresh fuel in and off I went to plow a field for the next eight hours in 100 degree temps.

I got off the tractor beat, and that old Kubota was begging for more.

Well that old Kubota is still around. I didn't have the heart to get rid of her. One of these days I may actually change the engine oil.

Well that sounds pretty encouraging. So the thing to do seems to be drain and change the fuel and maybe give the battery a charge and see it if will turn.
