Can't have it both ways. Make the portion sizes the same as what they used to be, then we'd tip more. But they want to both charge more and give you less.
That's an interesting point, but I'm not convinced portion size is a dominant factor, next to rent and wages.

Most of the higher-end restaurants I go to have what I consider very reasonable portion sizes, about exactly what I'm willing to eat in a single sitting. Meanwhile, the more budget-friendly family-style restaurants seem to give almost-absurdly large portion sizes, that most people other than young guys with bottomless stomachs can never finish in a single sitting.

Yet I pay $80 - $100 head at the more expensive restaurant, with reasonable portions, whereas I can sometimes pay as little as $15 - $30/head at cheaper restaurants with larger portions. Clearly portion size is not the driving factor.
