Just thin foam I believe. I've not found it to dig in or anything and like I said I'll wear it for several hours without issue (both when wood chipping and sawing).

I'm happy to take a photo tomorrow, but it looks like at least one of the video reviews on the Amazon page show the inside of the helmet/headband, if you hadn't looked at them.

I have the Husqvarna system also and after a few hours have to take it off as the ear muffs are too small.(I also wear ear plugs underneath.) There are some really nice helmets... with comparable price tags. If I was running a saw full time I would consider something like this...

Any recommendations for a comfortable chainsaw helmet with mesh face protection and ear muffs? I've been using an inexpensive version that works, but becomes uncomfortable after a few hours. There's a little foam on the front headband strap, but it doesn't seem to help much. Looking for something better, but most of what I am seeing looks so very much the same.

Husqvarna makes two styles of forestry helmets.

I used their "Functional Forest Helmet" for years. It held up well for me. I prefer their wheel ratchet adjusting system to the slightly less expensive slip ratchet adjustment (though if you rarely adjust the size, it probably doesn't make much difference).

Some years ago, I switched to their Technical Forest Helmet. I find it significantly more comfortable: I can wear it all day. The visor swings up more fully out of the way than their other model, for better visibility without have to crane your neck as much. It is a good bit more expensive, but worth it to me.

Didn't realize there are two styles of Husqvarna helmets, and appreciate all these suggestions. I didn't even see an option for the technical style helmet on Amazon until I specifically searched for it just now. I would have missed it if you hadn't told me about it.

You can also get terrycloth band covers that make things a little more comfortable. replaceable sweatbands. I find them more comfortable than the vinyl ones.

I’ve got the helmet like Drumminj posted a link to. There isn’t a lot of padding to it but I also find it pretty comfortable but hot if it’s warm out at all. I do most of my wood cutting and splitting in winter though. The technical ones look nice but pricey.

I got the husq technical forest helmet a couple years ago. I don't wear it for hours so can't speak to that, but I tend to have problems with headphones/ear muffs hurting my ears after a few minutes and this helmet feels great to me, no worries.
I'll note that the face shield (screen) connection is a bit funky.

About 2.5 years of wood split. I have another half years in logs ready to cut. Would like to be 5 years ahead before the end of winter but we will see.
