Finishing up. Just cleaning up a few more spots using the Challenger to grapple some tree tops and some small logs and get them across the tracks. The CX-15 waits in the background.

Some sweet gum branches.

Down the hill to the tracks.

And onto the pile on the other side.

My boy taking down a little cedar that up & died. It’s so humid you sweat doing nothing. Working? You’re soaked in 5 minutes.

Any more I can't do any work without some sort of a headband to catch sweat, and I either wring it or swap it out every hour or so or I just can't see!
Almost makes me long for the days that I didn't sweat at all, though I came close to passing out in the heat back then -- thankfully at about 18 years old one day I suddenly started sweating.

Please do your boy a real favor and buy him some appropriate safety gear.

Also: that left thumb should always be wrapped around the handle, not laid along it. It makes for a much more positive grip should something unexpected happen.

It was raining most of the day so I split up about 1-1/2 face cord of cherry that was in my splitter shed. Hopefully, I’ll get another 3 face cords cut and split by the end of the summer. That will make 18 face cords in my woodshed, enough to heat our house thru (3) average winters.

The last piece I split was real knotty and I broke some welds on my splitter while trying to split it. That opened up a gap about 1/2” across the bottom of the backstop. I tried to pound it back into position with a sledge hammer but I could not budge it with that.

I ended up c-clamping a steel block to the backstop and I chained that to the wedge and used the 22 ton hydraulic cylinder to close the gap. I laid plenty of weld in there so it should be stronger than when it was new.

Rain? Nice. We sure would like some of that. This is another dry, dry summer here.

Here in upstate Western NY, we have been blessed with at least 1/4” of rain no less than every 4 days since spring. I’ll likely wear out my lawn mower this year but I never seen a growing season like it. My corn is over 9 ft tall and will likely make over 200 by/acre:

Any recommendations for a comfortable chainsaw helmet with mesh face protection and ear muffs? I've been using an inexpensive version that works, but becomes uncomfortable after a few hours. There's a little foam on the front headband strap, but it doesn't seem to help much. Looking for something better, but most of what I am seeing looks so very much the same.

We are used to dry on the east side of the mtns, but I know over there it gets scary when its dry and those big cedars, that are used to frequent rain, start getting really thirsty and dry. I had a few scary summers in western Oregon.

I’ve had two Husqvarna chainsaw helmets and have been happy with them but they are probably on the lower end of cost.

I use this Husqvarna one and find it pretty comfortable even when out sawing for a few hours: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079791HXB
