This stuff is junk trust me it stinks when it’s burnt if I was going to smoke with something I’d rather use Red Alder it leaves a really nice flavor.

If it does it wouldn’t matter the closest mill that accepts black ash is about 1.5hr away with almost no pay for it, here’s another weird one for you most of the mills won’t take oak.
Hmmm, the cherry I have here is very nice for smoking, maybe yours is different.

It is cherry out here isn’t like back east it’s a junk wood but then again most hardwoods out here are junk compared to Doug Fir.

We have several different species but the only thing of any value is black cherry. To find that with any value you really need to get down to Pennsylvania and New York, or parts of New Hampshire and Vermont.

Yep, I would think Doug Fir would be king of the forest!!

Local cherry and other "hardwoods" we have may not be what they are back east, but I burn it. Not commercial wood types by any means.

Is it this stuff?

There are lesser valued "wild" cherry species in New England.
For the most part they are junk though if I find one big enough to mill I will keep it.
Cabinet grade cherry trees are different matter entirely and the quality of the milled lumber reflects this.
It grows here in Vermont and also in mid Atlantic states.
Can't comment on western cherry although it sounds like a "wild" species.

Looks about right. It burns okay, I am not really picky on what I burn.

Some oldies, back when I was doing ~6 cord a year between 2 wood stoves. Now we have a OWB and a newer tractor with a winch, just drag the logs to the boiler cut and toss em in. Last year was roughly 16 cord
