Figured since the weather was so nice, I'd get more wood split. Found this nice maple missing the top. Apparently there was a squirrel living in the top. Man he went flying out of there when it hit the ground!! His nest is up by the log arch in this photo.

It was supposed to cloudy but decent here too but didn't turn out that way. We've had 4 days of fog and drizzle. Haven't done much but get the chains on and poke around in the shop. Now tomorrow is supposed to be good.

I love standing barkless maple like that too - ready to burn. Looks like a lot of oak leaves on the ground there also. Nice hard woods you have !!
Back in the day we were clearing a lot for the next house and fell a tree that turned out hollow. When it hit the ground it broke apart and a big old coon came rolling out. He really got stunned. Poor thing wandered in small circles for an hour before he could go straight and disappear into the woods.

Wait a couple more days, with 2-4 more inches coming you may find it running to the bottom of the decking. :shocked:

Good grief thats pretty bad cant even take a atv to a car wash...........

Yes, it was too dirty, it was caked with about a 3" layer of mud, algae and swamp juice. It was nasty, so was my truck after what little car washing I could get done before exiting.

I did gathering of scattered firewood past couple days, some here some there and some that was suppose to be put in this year and some if I dont wont be any good next season. Now all thats left here and there is oak tops, I can wait on them, I should wait til ground freezes so wont get mud all over the top branches.

Today’s work. Neighbors tree fell on my property a few weeks ago. Notice stump popped up after some of tree was cut away

It was overcast this morning, but nothing coming down. Then I went in to break for lunch, went to go back out and it was raining. Had to go back in and put on more layers. Luckily it was just passing through, so I could go to my buddies house and split some wood for him. One log was a good size cherry, but it had more ants in it than wood! All sizes of carpenter ants, some with wings, pretty lifeless in this temp. I'm sure there is a skunk or raccoon having quite the feast right about now!

Thanks! I have a lot of hardwoods, mostly red(black) oak, some maples and white oaks mixed in. Occasional cherry and poplar. Then there's the rest, most I can't identify. Down in the neighbors field are black walnuts and a couple chestnuts. According to what I could find, they are Japanese chestnuts.
