Hi Oldpath,
If you wouldn't mind my asking, would you please post to some pictures showing more detail of how your crane is mounted/attached to your splitter?
I tried to get a good look from the picture you posted, but the area is too shadowed to see anything with any useful details.
Thanks,
PA
I can take some more pics this weekend, I did find these ones. The main post sits on a old car spindle so it swings very easy and there for I added a small brake shoe, then when in tranport I added a locking pin so the crane wont/cant move. The winch is on a make-shift trolley made up of 4 pulleys that should be on bearings and the weight of winch is centered under the rail so the carriage will roll. The remote cable is stored in the semi water proof box under I beam, be better when I upgrade to wireless remote, I shake my head when I see a crane with the winch switch fixed to the crane, you need remote as you set the tongs on a block and tongs are better then something you screw in.
Cranes are 10 times better then log lifts, those splitters are limited to one side and constantly rolling blocks to the splitter, what a waste of labor. I can reach 10' in all directions, when I walk to a block I set tongs on, no rolling of blocks required and a winch with wireless remote has the reach of what ever length cable is on winch. Now even if firewood block are all stacked up nice and neat, crane still is better<<<<<This is all in response to my neighbor who still maintains a log lift is better to that I say BAH HUMBUG............
