Here's what it looks like with the cover off,

The flywheel shaft has a small gear on it, when you release the rack, it drops onto that gear, driving it ahead. At the end of the stroke, the rack lifts/releases and springs pull it all back for another stroke.

They are demoed at the Paul Bunyan show every year and I've looked them over pretty well. It, and the Super Split models are the only two brands of splitters of "this" type, I'd even consider.

It looks like you need two hands to activate the ram. I guess this can be viewed as a safety feature, since it wouldn't be possible to rest a hand where it might get pinched/crushed.

Your suggestion of splitting directly to storage is spot on. I picked up some ICB metal pallet cages and split directly to them. It has saved a ton of time and handling. Nice video.

I use these , I built 6 of them, treated 2x4 galvanized lag bolts and an eye bolt on th the back of them that attaches to a short chain with a hook on my forks, they hold one face cord. I used an old roll of fence wire or concrete mesh on the outside

I did a little splitting with my new Split Second splitter:cool2: I just got it today.

Looks quick but the knife is a bit small so you may have to flip the wood over the get it completely split. I have that problem with my champion splitter. It has been tough but I think I will go with a split fire or timber wolf next time.

Pasture culture.....getting grazing sheep to clean u brush has been working for my sister and her son. Kinda funny that they have a Shih Tzu as a trained sheep dog. You should see this little bugger work the sheep. The little dog is twice as fast as anything I have every seen. Even the vet commented that the dog is hard. Think her conditioning was due to trying to keep up with their black lab for the last 6 years. Here is a video of Bella herding sheep.

Hey Gordon, that's where a skidding winch really shines! That will make some good firewood!

Here is what works well for me. From the time the log hits the splitter nothing ever hits the ground or needs picked up again.
