Looks you do have big trees down there. I can almost guess witch way that maple is going to fall or is it fell, but the hardest decision is witch tractor to use to haul it out.

That is the easy part. My loader can't lift more than about 4 foot of that tree so I would skid it out of the woods using the Kubota L3240. Then I would borrow my grandpas rollback, and winch it on the truck. The maple is still standing.

I didn't think that tractor with forks was big enough to dig out stumps, but probably worked good for loading, an 8 inch stump will give my L3400 quite the workout

I had to roll them around to knock off enough red clay to be able to pick them up. The ones I couldn't flip I drug a bit with a chain to knock some dirt off then would flick some dirt off with the forks until I could flip them over. Time consuming.

Had a busy weekend, doing some trailer logging. My L3400 will only pull one pine log, load them on a trailer and I can haul the whole tree plus another one, there's something about wheels that makes logs haul easier. I gathered up some fir blow downs and put them on my small trailer, I always say if it will make a 2x4, I'll take it.
I had a video of loading those 20 foot pine logs on the trailer, but being in a tight spot for loading, the video ended up being R rated, I only keep PG. Looks like it's going to be another summer of cut, saw build....

Either a rare 1.5 axle, 3 wheel trailer, or maybe two trailers?

:)

I would have been out cold before they ever got me to the hospital! All I have to do is look at something like that (on me) and they I start thinking as soon as I think I'm a goner!

Reminder to wear safety clothing when using a chainsaw. Chaps, heavy shoes, heavy gloves and a hardhat are good measures. Chainsaws make hamburger out of your flesh, they do not make a smooth clean cut.

Yup... I've seen a few chainsaw nasties, myself. The smaller saws most of us use are (IMO) more dangerous than a big heavy saw with a long bar. They kick back easier & faster AND the bars are short enough to reach your foot, before they hit the ground. I know fallers who worked accident free in the woods for years, but hurt themselves badly with a little 18" saw, working around home.
A good reminder to all of us, thanks for posting.

Here's my small contribution. It was a rather large chuck of ash though. Pretty heavy
