To use it "right" the jack is set in place, BEFORE you even start the back cut, and it has a claw on it that digs into the tree... They are very safe...

I bought mine from Norwood Industries, I have no idea if they even carry them any longer... All of them are made in Europe and are of TOP quality... They are NOT made from a converted anything or of cheapo parts...

I did some searching and Norwood Sawmills | Portable Sawmills & Forestry Equipment is selling the device. It is called the Timber Tool Tree-felling-jack. You can find it hear TimberTool

There is no price on the website but I called and the price is $398 and since I'm in NJ it would come from their warehouse in Buffalo NY and it would ship via FedEx ground to my home for $30.

Since they come from Europe the next time I am in Sweden I may try to see if I could find one to buy there since the $ is gaining maybe it would be a better price and then package it right and take it with me on the plane home. A lot of work there.

I have to say I like this device.

These devices are not for the uninitiated. They are not a panacea for fall control but the occasional tree faller may regard them as such. The thing most dangerous with these as with any other fall control method be it rope, cable, wedges, bottle jack, etc, is that the tree will not necessarily obey the directed force. Many elements can "twist" a tree out of intended direction. Out in the woods perhaps it's no big deal other than making sure of an escape path, Next to a garage or house, one should think twice and consider calling in a professional before relying on a device to steer a back lean.

If it were me I would set a wedge in that backcut before I set the jack and started cranking. I would keep the wedge tight as I went. That's a bad place to be working if something slips and the tree tips back with extra momentum.
Agreed and good advice!

AGAIN, when using the jack PROPERLY, you "set the jack" BEFORE you even start the back cut!! SO, there's no need or place to set a wedge "before you set the jack"!
