Nice! I really want/need a grapple, and this is just one more reason why!

I have done this with some of my dirt buckets with the skid steer. If your tractor bucket is built beefy enough, you can add an extra angle or heavy flat plate across, at the top (inner) side of your bucket to do the same thing. With heavy logs you might want to stay away from the center and take advantage of the strength near the side plates of the bucket. If you look closely at the pic., you can see the 1" pc. of rebar that I welded across the top just for this situation.

Man this is a great thread. I really like seeing how everyone does there wood process. For me I exclusively heat my house with wood so I go through a lot of wood each year, Keep feeding that out side wood burner. I turn off my two hot water tanks and use (2) water to water transfers to heat all of the domestic water all winter and man is it hot! I also disconnect the igniter to the gas boiler and have a water to water transfer there also. I used to heat the garage with water direct from the wood boiler but when I had my heart attack and the wife had to take over all of the splitting duties she put her foot down and I had to turn the garage heat off, and of course one of the FCU froze that year. Well in any event I was looking at the boys phone pictures last night and he had a couple more I thought I would share.



I had to go out and get a new saw last year, the wood was a little larger than usual.


This is some of the more normal size wood.


This is one slice off of a real man sized log, do ya see why I need a larger saw!

Here is what I do it works great for me, The crates are a half cord. This all that the L45 wants to lift though, glad they are not any heavier.

That left front tire shows they are heavy.

I am getting .3 cord on a pallet now and with a pallet of green wood it's heavy.
