Greetings fellow TBNr's!!
So, I'm moving some dirt and grading my driveway (842ft) yesterday and my tractor starts to sputter as if though it was not getting enough fuel (currently at 3/4 tank...filled it up on Saturday). I raise the RPMs and the same issue still exists. I sit it out for a moment and she's back to her old self. Later on, this start again so I check the air filters and check the fuel filter. Once I replaced the fuel filter (plan to install a new one today), I tried to start the tractor and it started for a few seconds and sputtered out. I turned the engine over a few other times and she wouldn't start again. Now, I just remembered I missed a rather cruicial step of bleeding my fuel lines. Aside from that, any idea why I would have had the issue in the first place?

In addition, I hear a high pitched 'whistle' on occassion. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

I think you might have a fuel issue with your injector as it appears your interlocks and safeties all work since you can start her up. I assume that you have Diesel engine ...is that right? . I'd open up the discharge fuel piping to the injector to make sure I have flow and hope for it to push the blockage out if there is any. I would not forget the "crucial step" of bleeding the air. If that does not do it, but you have flow, then I check the injector operation for spray pattern. Have you messed with fuel timing for the injectors ? is the high pitched noise associated with hyd lift system or engine

JC,

PS. What kind of tractor do you have?

My tractor is slightly larger than yours, but I think the fuel filter is similar. When I change the filter, I put the element into the bowl and do not completely tighten the filter down. I then open the petcock and let fuel run into the filter until it flows out the top. I tighten the fuel filter and then start the tractor. I've never had my engine even burp after doing this. If you didn't use this technique, I think you may have injected air into the lines and you will have to bleed the system. Letting fuel leak out the top of the filter makes a bit of a mess, but it's a lot less hassle than having to bleed the system. I hope you get it back operating soon.

I agree. If you don't get all of the air out when changing the filter and then you run the tractor you will force air into the high pressure side of the fuel system. You then have to bleed the whole system.

Also.. you may have junk in the fuel tap that is preventing fuel from flowing freely.

last time I had a problem with my 7610s with it becoming weak and loosing rpms, i notice dthe oem plastic fuel strainers that set atop the fuel tap melted away.. ( they tend to do this alot.. and the biodiesel blend seems to make it happen faster! ).

I've made new metal screens using brass fuel screen for mine.

Along The same line I had a piece of rubber from my fuel cap that came off during a fueling session. It just happened that this rubber piece instead of collecting on the bottom of the tank decided to go and plug the fuel valve. I took the rubber fuel hose off and fiddled with the valve and no flow. With the valve open I put the a little bit of compressed air in to the valve discharge port and there came fuel. I went ahead took the tank off and flushed it with some diesel and put all back after filtering the fuel using coffee filter and a funnel.

All,
Thanks so much for the replies!! I bought a new filter and O-Ring ($7.33....OUCH) yesterday. I hope to be able to change these out and bleed the system today as we had an unexpected rain shower yesterday.

Any other ideas on the squealing? It doesn't happen at idle but when I move forward or backwards. Using the FEL or PTOs don't cause an issue either.

Hi JC!!
I have a TC33DA...right below my name. Thanks!!

Hi Tre, My bad.. need to read a bit more carefully:eek:

On your squealing. Can you tell if it is engine related or drive terrain related? You said in idle it does not do it, How about transmission in neutral, while you revving the engine up or down. Do you see occurrence of squealing while you use any part of your hydraulic system.

JC,

Not a problem at all JC!! I just appreciate your assistance!!!! :) As for the squealing, I believe it is drivetrain related. It doesn't happen at idle or revs (I don't think...maybe I can retry once she starts again). It doesn't happen when I operate the FEL or the PTO. As I recall, it ONLY happens when I move FORWARD and REVERSE... and not the same pitch (if that makes sense). Maybe I can record it (once she is running again :) ) and post it here???
