In Indiana you can get a dui for operating your lawn mower in your own yard drunk. The charge is operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. There is no element of the crime that requires you to be on a public roadway.

Also Indiana has case law that riding a horse while drunk is NOT dui because there was no vehicle. Driving a horse drawn carriage is another story.

Same in CO. You can be arrested for DUI on pretty much any motorized vehicle (car, boat, tractor, ATV...), bicycle, or even riding a horse! DUI arrests in CO can be made on public or private property. The law says you need to be in control of the vehicle...pretty much sitting behind the wheel with the keys in the ignition (whether it's running or not) is enough.

I probably made over 1000 DUI arrests in my career of people on just about every type of vehicle...but never a horse.

MN doesn't license tractors, or even title them for that matter. It's not a motor vehicle by definition, and thus not subject to the restrictions of the on-highway fuel taxes.

I drive mine to the local wash-it-your-dang-self car wash a mile away from my house in the metro. I get smiles and waves. I use my turn signals and also hand signal lane changes and turns. Never been bothered by PD and I drive past a fire station on my way.

Tractors are enough of a motor vehicle here that an impaired driving charge , over 80 milligrams and loss of your drivers license for a year will occur if drunk . Can稚 drive the tractor on the road either if your license has been pulled . Yet if over 16 and no license a person is allowed to drive farm, implements of animal husbandry and off road industrial equipment on any road that is not limited acccess or I致e tweight .

Germany is one country for certain not to be caught with off road fuel in your tractor while running the roads .
In Ontario an impaired and over 80 can occur on private property if in plain view of the local constabulary.

As long as you keep it under 55 you should be ok! Seriously, I can't believe any DOT officer would hassle you about a tractor used 99% of the time off road.

Only stationary engins are permitted 'off road' fuel here and I believe that is because the state hydro electric system uses many stationary generators in remote locations where the power grid does not reach.
Big bulldozers and excavators also must pay fuel taxes.
