I am looking at replacing a bobcat 753 with a small tractor(35-50 hp). I use the bobcat for moving small amounts of soil, but mostly use the grapple. I need to have a tractor with loader, 4wd, and a set of remotes so I can add a grapple. The capacity of the bobcat is about 1200lbs, and I do not need to step up from there. I have a large track loader for the big work, and a 68 hp tractor for the real work. Figure a small tractor would be a good addition, and be more usefull around the farm than the bobcat currently is. We are clearing a nubmer of acres of overgrown fields. Mostly it would be used with a grapple, with a york rake, small bush hog etc. TRYING to spend around 14k. So far the only option I have looked at is the JD 1070, but I am not sure about finding one with a remote.

Anyone have any suggustions?

Welcome to TBN 97:D
I can't/won't recommend a tractor for you...but be assured that whatever model you choose I can help you add a remote to the loader for a grapple. The simple way is to use what's called a "diverter" that basically diverts the flow of fluid from the dump/curl circuit to the grapple when a button is pressed on the joystick handle. The cost will be about $400-$500 or so.

Do a search here on TBN for these terms for hours of reading then reply back with your thoughts;)

I would recomend looking for a 110 without the backhoe but with the extra hydraulics since this would still allow use of skidsteer attachments like grapples, pallet forks and buckets. You would also have the benefit of 3 rear remotes and a 4 post rops. In addition to this you would have a tractor set up for a bellypan too. You may also find that the full 110tlb with backhoe to be a handy addition to your equipment but more costly.

Kenny thanks for the info. I did a quick search, and I am not sure if the diverter or just adding a rear remote would be a better option. I have some implements that I would like to use the rear remotes anyway, so I think that is the direction I would like to go. The 1090 I looked at has some type of rear remotes, but it does not look like the typical remote. It has a hose that runs from one to the other(and looks facorty). It says something about 'open remotes' on the decal. Not sure what that is about. Anyone know if I could use this to run a grapple?

Thanks for the info on the JD 110, but I think that may be a bit more construction set than I need(and more expensive).

Kubota m59 with front remotes is a great skidsteer sub - I run a lot of skid stuff, probably as much as tractor.

Don't know the details, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 110 was a good sub as well.

The hose you saw is probably a "power beyond" line. It will have the full flow of hydraulic oil in it whenever the tractor is running. It's used to power things with their own valves like a backhoe or logsplitter. It should have QD's (quick-disconnects) on it to "plug in" the attachment in series. There is NO valve that controls this line.

-BUT-
You can plumb in you own valve (attached to the ROPS or fender) to control your grapple and/or rear implements. It will cost about $175 for a two spool valve, plus hoses and QD's you will be at about $300-$400 for this upgrade.

Kenny,
Thanks for the info, that is exactly what I was looking for! I guess this 1070 could be exactly what I needed after all. I can always run that line as a rear remote with the valve, as well as the grapple(since I would not even need both at the same time). Great to have a resourse like this to bounce things around.
