tractor split putting it back togeather after new clutch.

okay I am putting my Massey 165 back together after a new clutch. can I put the pressure plate and clutch disc on the input shaft and roll the tractor on and bolt the pressure plate on through the inspection hole? I kinda need a reply urgently as I need to get it done. thanks so much,nick

I recently did the same with my MF150. You should use an alignment tool specific to your tractor to align the clutches and install the pressure plate on the engine side. before putting the tractor back together. I bought mine online for $19. Once it is on, you roll the tractor together and yes you can stick your hand up through the inspection plate to help guide it and make sure both halves are at the same height. I also had someone turn the PTO shaft (from the back of the tractor) to help line things up. Ideally you would have three people to get it back together. I don't think there is anyway to bolt the pressure plate on through the inspection plate. Hope this helps.

Agreed, the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel must all be aligned with an alignment tool before tightening the pressure plate to the flywheel, then the two halves get put together. As TnWV said, turning the PTO will allow the splines to fall into place easier and as long as the pressure plate, clutch disc, and flywheel are aligned properly, it will slide together easily.
