Tractor
tc29s
I just took delivery of a tc29 two weeks ago upon delivery the tractor worked for about a quarter hour and then quit. Seems it had a lot of water in it .I don't know if it was in the tractor or in the diesel they put in it .anyways they could not come get the tractor till the next morning and over night all that water turned to ice in the system .All good you say under warrenty,fine,They cleaned it out and returned it the next day.But now every time i start it it smokes like crazy and pops out the pipe,for about 1 or 2 min.what would make this happen?

SJF, I've had a TC29D for a couple of years now & it also smokes for a few minutes when I start it. This is not unusual for a Diesel engine. The colder it is, the more it smokes. As long as it does not smoke at operating temp. you are fine.

On an unrelated note I see your initials are SJF, mine are FJS.

If it didn't smoke when you first got it, it should not smoke now. Backfiring (popping) would indicate air starvation, so the air breather might be clogged or the inner filter installed backwards blocking airflow. I think you have a problem and if you can't find it, I'd be on the phone to my dealer in a hurry. That's a nice little tractor and it should not be acting this way. ...my two cents...

First thing I would do is drain the fuel completely and put fresh diesel in it and go from there... you need a reference to start with...

Besides with only 15 minutes of usage/experience... how do you know how it should act...? {I agree, a brand new tractor shouldn't be coughing and sputtering, crippled the first couple minutes of warmup...}

I have had my TC 29D for 3 weeks now. It has always run great. Very little if any smoke upon startup. I think you have a problem.

Can't speak to the TC29, but my son got a load of water in our truck from local diesel fillerup last spring. Took forever to get it out of the system. What you have to worry about is the water expanding at the injector tip and blowing off pieces, causing a messed up spray pattern. What our problem was it got into the injector pump, governor area causing the rpm to drop off guickly when you lifted off the throttle, and the engine would die. After adding several bottles of additive, it cleared up. I have heard that water can mess up the injector pump also, sounds like the cold start enrichment may need looking at. Advise - keep an eye on you fuel filter, and clean out frequently checking for black crud - its a fungus that grows in diesel when water is present. As a preventive, add some diesel fuel conditioner.

Absolutely... the number one contamination in fuel... water...

Unfortunately, it make take a tank to go through system wise and it would clear up... {if it were a water contam. problem... my gut tells me it is...}

I also just got myself a TC29 3 weeks ago. Mine smokes a bit when I first fire it up, but once the engine is at normal operating temp, the smoke stops. I don't get any popping or backfiring at all. If the popping continues to persist, you may want to get that looked at. That's not normal for ANY engine.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!

Thank all of you for responding.i know that the dealer put a lot of conditioner in the fuel tank you can see it in the filter.I just hope that once i run a tankfull threw the tractor it will clear up. But i know they had the hole system apart.They tried to get it running in the back field and could not and they had it all apart back there. Had to bring another tractor up to pull it to the driveway to load it.I don't know what else they did once they got it down there?I guess time will tell.

You can SEE the conditioner in the filter? I never heard of that before; the conditioners I'm familiar with blend in. Are you sure you're not seeing water in the filter? I can't say for sure without seeing it, but sure sounds to me like you've still got some contamination there.
