1959 MF 65
Hello all. I have been a lurker for a while, as I plotted to make my move and buy a tractor. I finally found a deal I could not refuse, and am making the arrangements to pick up my ~1959 MF65.

I know almost nothing about tractors, except what I've read doing research. I've never even driven one before. But I have worked on engines and motorcycle all my life, and want the tractor for working my property.

I will have a ton of questions about this tractor, so I figured that I'd break the ice and say hello.

The tractor has been stored outside for quite a while, but the sheet metal is in surprisingly good shape. From what I can tell from a quick look, the only thing I can spot that is missing is the air-intake hood ornament (the airplane). The grilles are intact and decent.

It is a gas Continental. The block has a hole that you could put your fist in, with a connecting rod sticking out of it. :-/ But the owner (a cousin by marriage) has a new Continental block, the whole low-end actually, that comes with the tractor. So I'll be building up the new engine with as many of the old parts that I can salvage and replacing the rest.

I have no idea what the operational state of the transmission or hydraulics may be in. I can't imagine that I could, without a functioning power plant. Tires are pretty shot, but hold air. There is no linkage on the 3-point, so I'll be needing to pick that up too.

So .. this will be my Winter project. I am hoping to rope my three sons into it as much as possible. I hope to pick it up soon - weather permitting. Right about now I am pretty happy that I did not toss out all my old school automotive diagnostics tools; timing light, advance/dwell/tach meters... etc. :)

I am looking forward to meeting the community here. See ya around!

Nuttin like jumping in with both feet and a couple fingers too. Hope your sons enjoy the time with you. Be patient with them and have fun with it. Welcome to TBN.
